İSKİ is Turkey’s Largest Water Management Administration Under A Municipality
İSKİ was founded in 1981 under the governance of İstanbul Governorate with the Law no. 2560 and incorporated into the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 1984 under the Law no. 3009. The Metropolitan Municipality Law No.5216 enacted in 2005 extended İSKİ’s service area, increasing the number of served districts to 39 from 27. İSKİ’s service area was extended to include Istranca stream basins upon the decree of the Council of Ministers as some of the water resources supplying İstanbul remained outside İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s borders
An administration serving a city of 16 million people, İSKİ’s yearly budget has been declared as nearly TRY8 billion.
